We had a few bumps during registration because the staff in charge of registration took things into their own hands and decided to disregard the format, allowing teams with all male members to join! What a mess! If we weren't there to solve this (seeing as a male category could not be opened) the whole tournament would have failed. Thank you to all the teams for accepting our solution. Four talented Dodgeball teams faced off in the Finals. Yellow Jackets Vs. Engga Boys of UST for 3rd Place. Tankeros vs. Eclipse Gym Purple Cobras of DLSU for 1st and 2nd. Incidentally, these teams are the same teams who faced off in the finals of the PDBA's dodgeball tournamants in their schools! This just shows that they are very promising dodgeball talents indeed. History repeated itself when the Engga Boys defeated the Yellow Jackets. In the heated finals that followed we thought history was going to repeat itself as well when the Tankeros, with 5 members left, cut down the Eclipse Gym Purple Cobras to 3 members with only 40 seconds left to go!!! This in the 3rd and deciding game after Referee Ann almost disqualified the Purple Cobras for Gamesmanship. They practically had that trip to Boracay in the bag! Instead of taking things easy, the Tankeros attacked as intensely as before and two of their members got tagged after attacking close to the centerline and leaving themselves exposed to a counter!!! The effort shows good sportsmanship from the Tankeros who are the Varsity swimming team of DLSU. They still gave their all even if they had the advantage and could take the easy way to winning :-) It was down to a 3 on 3 with only 10 seconds left when a Tankero attacked a Purple Cobra who fumbled the ball 3-4 times before catching it, getting 1 member back and sending 1 Tankero out making it 4 Purple Cobras vs 2 Tankeros with 5 seconds left!!! While this was going on, the players seemed to freeze and hold their breaths to see what would happen. The PDBA president (who likes coaching both sides) on the other hand was practically screaming for an attack on the Purple Cobra who took about 3 seconds to get the ball under control! If only the crowd wasn't so loud... Oh well in the end the Eclipse Gym Purple Cobras won the game and the Trip to Boracay. But it was as exciting a final as their previous final match showdown at DLSU. |
